The Sistine Chapel is a chapel that served as a place of both religious and functionary papal activity. Today, it is the site of the papal conclave, the process by which a new pope is selected. The fame of the Sistine Chapel lies mainly in the frescoes that decorate the interior, most particularly the Sistine Chapel ceiling and The Last Judgment, both by Michelangelo. The fame of Michelangelo's paintings has drawn multitudes of visitors to the chapel ever since they were revealed five hundred years ago.[1]

Coverage[]

The Sistine Chapel is featured in The Bodies Left Behind starting in 3 months after people.

The show explains that the art is one of the medium which man has achieved immortality that can last centuries before explaining that the masterpieces in Sistine Chapel require protection. In the time of humans, Michelangelo's frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel were protected by more than 20 miles of pumps, pipes, valves, and wiring in order to prevent the fresco plaster from absorbing water from the air in which humidity was kept at 50% to 60% in which air filters remove including microscopic particles of dust, all controlled by computer. With power shutting down long ago, the system have already closed down. But the disappearance of humans are actually helping the fresco since without annual hordes of 2 millions tourists. no ascending currents of human body heat will happen inside the Sistine Chapel.

In 500 years after people, while all the frescoes have faded and cracked from changing temperature and humidity, The Last Judgement heavenly sky has faded faster than others. The ultramarine pigment comes from Lapis Lazuli in Tunisia and it was the most precious color and one of the most delicate color in the Renaissance. The Lapis Lazuli comes from 3 sulphur atoms and an electron protected by aluminium and silicone atoms. 500 years of high humidity have breaks apart the atomic structure, allowing sulphur to mix with oxygen turning blue to yellowish-grey.

It's fate is then revealed when 500 years after people have caused corrosion within Sistine Chapel. Steven S. Ross stated that the walls have been weaken and the vault of the roof pushes the walls apart. This then cause the exterior bracing buttresses to fail, initiating a chain reaction. He then stated that the collapse would open like a book. The ceiling first collapse, following the entire chapel, destroyingthe frescoes to rubble .
