Milk is a nutrient-rich liquid food produced by the mammary glands of mammals. More than six billion people worldwide consume milk and milk products, and between 750 and 900 million people live in dairy-farming households.[1]

Coverage[]

It was briefly featured in The Last Supper.

LacticAcidBacteria

Bacteria consume the milk on a microscopic scale.

Within three weeks after humans disappear, all the bottles of milk in grocery stores go bad, as despite there being no people around to consume it, microorganisms are more than willing to pick up the slack. Thanks to compounds in the milk such as lactose being ideal for bacteria to use as a source of energy, coupled with warm temperatures which are suitable for rapid division, the bacteria proliferate very quickly, and produce lactic acid as a byproduct of their metabolism, causing the milk to curdle and go sour. The bacteria also produce large quantities of carbon dioxide gas from their respiration, which causes the bottles to swell, and some even explode in somewhat spectacular style.
