Los Angeles City Hall is the center of the government of the city of Los Angeles, and houses the mayor's office and the meeting chambers and offices of the Los Angeles City Council. It is known as the largest building in the world with an earthquake isolator. Now, without people, will it survive the Big One?
Coverage[]
The Los Angeles City Hall is featured in The Capital Threat.
In 50 years after people, 200 years overdue, the Big One, an earthquake measuring 8.0, hits Los Angeles. The Los Angeles City Hall, a 32-story building, is fitted with a base-isolated anti-earthquake mechanism and is the tallest structure in the world with that mechanic. Jonathan Stewart explains what the base isolators do is it allow the building to remain stationary while the grounds shifts beneath.
However, the base isolators rely on rubberized bearings to absorb the shock and minimize vibration and after fire damage and 50 years of without maintenance, the rubber has deteriorated. This cause the Los Angeles City Hall to collapse during the Big One.
