The Las Vegas Springs Preserve consists of 180 acres dedicated to nature walks and displays and is owned and operated by the Las Vegas Valley Water District. The Preserve is built around the original water source for Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Springs. The museum houses items from the development of Las Vegas as well as the natural history of the area.[1]

Coverage[]

The Las Vegas Springs Preserve Museum is featured in Sin City Meltdown.

It was introduced in 2 years after people when the show stated as an one time oasis stands as a natural reminder of the city's lush past. The show gave information that Spring's Preserve is a museum that was built on the site where artesian spring were discovered in 1829, making it possible for the people to settle Las Vegas, in fact it also means "The Meadows".

While the wells dug to tap the underground water have long gone dry, the voices of man still echo in the halls inside the visitor's center. The museum doesn't get electricity from the municipal grid, instead they were powered by 2,200 solar panels that cover the parking lots, generating 409 kilowatts of electricity, making the recorded narrations the last human voices to be heard in Las Vegas.

In 10 years after people, the solar cells have kept the facility's power for a decade but the voices of man begins to strain. In order to operate efficiently, it needs to be cleaned regularly. Steven S. Ross stated that solar cells are great but don't last forever and without people, the solar cells will fall prey to dust and debris and will degrade seven to eight percent a year. He continues after 10 years, the solar cells will lost more than half their power. The voltage begins to dip and the lights at the museum dims, making the voice of man to be silenced as it joins in the dark.
