The Houston Ship Channel, in Houston, Texas, is part of the Port of Houston, one of the busiest seaports in the world. The channel is the conduit for ocean-going vessels between Houston-area terminals and the Gulf of Mexico, and it serves an increasing volume of inland barge traffic.[1]

Coverage[]

The Houston Ship Channel is featured in Roads to Nowhere as a location for the oil refineries.

In 1 hour after people, thick plumes of steam billow out from the dense cluster of oil refineries situated along the Houston Ship Channel. One fifth of America's oil production passed through the channel in the time of humans, helping to feed an insatiable demand for duel. Everyday, the United States consume 20 million barrels of oil. Everything seems to be running smoothly but suddenly the alarm bells ring at the oil refineries, where one of the feeder tanks run dry, which then turn the whole refinery into a ticking time bomb.

Fires at the oil refinery in Houston Shipping Channel.

The reactors isn't entirely empty, deadly gasoline vapors continues to fill in but runaway temperatures have rupture the reactor, creating sparks and the fumes explode. The fire then rushes through the pipes connecting to a holding tank filled with already refined gasoline and ignites. It is then repeated to the other tanks till the whole refinery is on fire. William Leffler stated there will be a fire in one refinery and another one half a mile away. This cause all the oil refineries at the Houston Ship Channel to burn.

In 2 months after people, an apocalyptic firestorm still burns along the Houston Ship Channel and man stores of oil and gas haven't run out. The area processed most of the over 1 million barrels of crude oil produced in Texas every year, more than any other state in the country. This allowed the oil refineries to continue to burn at the Houston Ship Channel. Later, in 3 months after people, the oil refineries have exhausted the fuel and the fire have extinguished themselves and smoke.
