Bo was a pet dog of the Obama family, the first family of the United States from 2009 until 2017. President Barack Obama and his family were given the male Portuguese Water Dog as a gift after months of speculation about the breed and identity of their future pet. Bo breed origin is a Portuguese Water Dog, which originally from the Algarve region of Portugal. Due to its fleecy coat of minimally shedding hair, the Portuguese Water Dog is considered a hypoallergenic dog breed.[1]

Bo was introduced in 1 day after people when there's an intruder on the Oval Office and the intruder is Bo, the president's dog, who crossed to the West Wing. Bo is the last in a long line of bizarre presidential pets like Woodrow Wilson's sheep, Benjamin Harrison's goat, and William Howard Taft's cow. Bo is a Portuguese water dog, originally bred to work on fishing boats, diving for fish, retrieving broken nets, and guarding boats for their masters. Elena Gretch stated that Portuguese water dogs are one of the oldest breed of domesticated dog being back thousands of years and the dogs were very competent, intelligent, and can handle many different tasks. After people, Bo will soon to leave the White House and use his intelligence to survive.

Bo survive by thriving in the Chesapeake Bay.

In 8 years after people, Bo has survived because by falling back on the survival skills of his ancestors, it has sought sustenance from the sea. Firstly scavenging in the banks of the Potomac River, he would soon found his way to the nearby Chesapeake Bay. Elena Gretch stated that the Portuguese water dogs worked on fishing boats and seafood was always a staple part of the diet in which he could sniff out clams, shellfish, or dead fish wash up on the shore. She continues that it would be very likely that if he could get south towards the Chesapeake Bay, it would be an abundant food source for Bo to scavenge and survive for a lifetime. By turning to the food source of his ancestors, Bo has found the way to survive and thrive after people.
