Atlantic City, often known by its initials A.C., is a coastal resort city in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States. The city is known for its casinos, boardwalk, and beaches. It was incorporated on May 1, 1854, from portions of Egg Harbor Township and Galloway Township. Since 1921, Atlantic City has been the home of the Miss America pageant. In 1976, New Jersey voters legalized casino gambling in Atlantic City, and the first casino opened in 1978.[1]

Coverage[]

Atlantic City is one of the two main setting in Sin City Meltdown.

Starting in 2 days after people when the only creatures strolling down the world-famous boardwalk are feral cats. Without humans to feed them, the future of the 18 colonies that lived under the boardwalk is uncertain.

In 1 month after people, near Atlantic City, Lucy the Elephant still stands. However it has to be painted all the time by humans and by 2009, the deterioration was clear. It rains every three or four days in Atlantic City on average with winter time bringing snow and ice. This threatens the future of the structure.

Feral cats inside the city casinos.

At 5 years after people, the waterfront casinos were broken in by the city's feral cats' population. Ray Saumure thinks that over time, they would set up a hierarchy and occupy the buildings. Meanwhile, in the gloom of the casino, bats also find a place to live. After people, every casino is a potential bat cave. Ray Saumure stated that some of the buildings will end up being roots and for some bat species, the colonies are limited by the size of the cave they living and in this case, a very large building.

In 15 years after people, Lucy the Elephant is on her last legs. Richard Helfant stated that after people, the first thing that will happen is that the outer skin begin to fail and each piece of tin eventually peel off and fall to the ground. He continues that one good storm will weaken one leg and when the leg fail, the rest of Lucy fall to the ground.

SteelPiercollapse

Steel Pier collapse into the ocean.

In 50 years after people, Steel Pier is just a skeleton. Despite being built of reinforced concrete, it is not strong enough to withstand the constant assault of the ocean. John Feairheller stated that piers that extend into the oceans are already subject to the constant wearing away by the ocean. He continues that the water has sand in it as well as boards and other debris, making the waves sand blasting the structure and within 50 years, the structure is gone.

AtlanticBoardwalkBlownHurricane

The boardwalk break up and blown away during a hurricane.

Meanwhile, a hurricane is on its way up the coast toward Atlantic City. John Feairheller stated that a big one will arrive sometime in the next hundred years. Much of the boardwalk is already buried under sand after 5 decades but in the exposed sections, wind buffets the durable South American hardwood that has survived the years intact. As the winds increase, the corroded metal tie-downs weakens and the whole sections of the boardwalk are ready to give way. John Feairheller stated that portions of the boardwalk will break up and become battering rams.

The Atlantic City Hilton begins to collapse.

In the same hurricane, Waves of seawater floods the buildings, soaking their framework with a heavy solution of salt that remains behind long after the storm end. John Feairheller stated that the supports subjected to salt will constantly re-wetted and corrode much faster than the rest of the structure. He continues that been subjected to the heavy loads, it will start to fail one by one in a progressive failure like when the first goes, nothing happens but when the second and third columns go, it will start to collapse to what look like a demolition of a building by explosives. He then stated that it is in slow motion because only half of the building will fall and will continue to the middle then the back of the building. One of the buildings, Atlantic City Hilton, collapses in a progressive failure.

The fate of the city is revealed in 20,000 years after people when subtle changes in Earth's orbit and the tilt of its axis have return the planet to an Ice Age and as sea level drops almost 400 feet, the entire continental shelf stands above sea level in New Jersey. Atlantic City itself is surrounded by an inland forest. Steven S. Ross stated that if he is standing in Atlantic City during the next Ice Age, he would see forests at the back of him and the ocean would be too far away to see.

Transformation[]

AtlanticCityForest

Atlantic City would be forest, even after the Ice Age.

The only known transformation of Atlantic City in Sin City Meltdown is in 20,000 years after people during the next Ice Age. Atlantic City would returned into an inland forest with the ocean far away from its original shores. However, it is speculated that the forest that occupied Atlantic City would be the same even after the Ice Age that occurred and would be permanently a forest.
