Coverage[]
The Asian long-horned beetle is featured in The Invaders in 10 days after people right after the greyhounds.
The show gave information to beetle, which first arrived in New York from China in the mid-1990s, probably stowed away in cargo, and quickly started chomping on the trees of New York City, requiring massive eradication effort. Frank Lowenstein stated if humans disappeared, the beetle would begin to spread. He continues that 5 million trees were present in New York City and 2.4 million of it are susceptible to the beetle.
The larvae of the Asian long-horned beetle are miniature bio-fuel factories, making the fungus in their gut to help convert wood into energy, an attribute unique that human scientists studied them for clues about how to derive ethanol from trees. Frank Lowenstein stated that one the beetle is in the tree, it will start boring along the branches and creating dime-sized holes. He continues that the holes would multiply till it got weaker and take a few first snowstorm or windstorm to knock the tree down.
